Schematic overview of the experimental procedure in A Experiment 1 and B Experiment 2. In the “study” phase, participants saw each face presented on the screen for 2000 ms followed by a blank screen that was presented for 500 ms. In the subsequent distractor phase, participants read statements and indicated their veracity. Finally, memory was tested in the “test” phase by presenting half of the earlier presented images in addition to new facial images
