This example shows evidence of what appears to be ridge counting and ridge following behavior as a possible means to relate the target region to the core. The relative closeness of the fixations during counting demonstrates the need for a fixation extraction algorithm that uses two velocity thresholds plus additional temporal and spatial constraints as described in the “Fixation extraction” section. A brief pause in the long vertical saccade above the yellow target area was not labeled as a fixation by our extraction algorithm because its duration (50 ms) was less than the 80 ms threshold for a fixation
