The number of changes of direction on each axis. On the basis of the Fourier analysis, we computed participants’ modal time before changing direction on each axis, using their dominant frequency component. Dividing participant’s overall search time by the modal time before changing direction provided an estimate of the number of changes of direction. Figure 4 shows the relationship between the number of changes of direction on the x- and y- axes. Note, non-logged data are plotted throughout
